The Heavy Duty RF Admittance Level Switch operates by measuring changes in capacitance to determine the level of a medium, whether liquid or solid. It consists of a sensing rod and a guard electrode, which together form a capacitor. When the sensing rod is exposed to air, the capacitance remains stable. However, when the medium rises and contacts the sensing rod, the dielectric constant of the medium alters the capacitance between the rod and the electrode.
A high-frequency sine wave is applied to both the sensing rod and the guard electrode, creating an electrostatic field. The electronic circuit continuously monitors the capacitance changes. When the capacitance reaches a predefined threshold, indicating a certain level of the medium, the switch activates, which can trigger alarms or control pumps. This precise detection mechanism ensures accurate monitoring of levels in various industrial applications, enhancing operational efficiency and safety.
