Level Transmitter

Every tank, silo and well has a level, and plants usually need to know it all the time, not just at a given point. A level transmitter measures that level continuously and sends it out as an electrical signal. Control systems use the signal to run pumps, trigger alarms and keep inventory records. Which type of transmitter works best depends on the liquid or solid, the vessel and the conditions around it.

Levtron Instruments Pvt. Ltd. is a Pune-based manufacturer and supplier of level instruments, including level switches, level indicators and pressure instruments. This page covers its range of continuous level transmitters: radar, ultrasonic, capacitance, hydrostatic submersible and float. It explains how each works, where they are used and how to specify one.

What Is a Level Transmitter?

A level transmitter is an instrument that measures level continuously and converts the reading into a standard output, most often a 4 to 20 mA signal. Several technologies are used. Radar and ultrasonic transmitters send a pulse and time the echo from the surface. Capacitance transmitters sense how the material between two electrodes changes capacitance. Hydrostatic transmitters measure the pressure of the liquid column above a sensor. Float transmitters track a magnetic float with reed switches.

Why Choose Level Transmitter From Levtron?

No single technology suits every vessel, so a supplier with several options is useful. Here is what Levtron offers buyers in Pune:

Applications of Level Transmitters

In each case, the transmitter passes continuous level data to a DCS, PLC or telemetry system.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Which type of level transmitter should I choose?
It depends on the medium and conditions. Radar suits dust, vapour and tall silos, ultrasonic suits water and open channels, capacitance suits chemicals and oils, hydrostatic suits wells and sumps, and float suits clean liquid tanks.
2. What measuring ranges are available?
Ranges include up to 120 m for radar, 5 to 40 m for ultrasonic, up to 3 m rigid or 30 m rope for capacitance, 0 to 200 m of water column for hydrostatic, and 300 to 4000 mm for float.
3. What output signals do the transmitters provide?
A 4 to 20 mA output is standard. RS485 Modbus RTU is available on most models, and the ultrasonic transmitter also provides two programmable alarm relays.
4. Can these transmitters be used in hazardous areas?
Flameproof Ex-d IP66 enclosures are available on selected capacitance and float transmitters, including the fuel level transmitter. Confirm the requirement with Levtron when ordering.
5. What information is needed to choose a model?
Please give the medium, vessel height or depth, operating temperature, pressure and the output you need, so the correct technology, range and connection can be recommended.
