Working Principle of Compact RF Admittance Level Switch (Solids)

The RFLS-100S operates on high-frequency RF admittance measurement. The probe consists of an active sense electrode, an active guard shield, and the grounded vessel wall.

A high-frequency AC sine wave signal is applied equally to both the sense electrode and the guard shield. When bulk solid material comes in contact with the probe, the admittance (capacitance and conductance) changes relative to ground.

Because the sense probe and guard shield are driven at the exact same voltage and phase, no current flows across any coating or build-up between them. The sensor only detects when material bridges between the sense probe and the grounded vessel wall, completely eliminating false alarms from dust or material coating.
